A group mail to my id brought out my protective instinct against all helpless beings, and I just needed to voice out my opinion. It is just not about the seal or a tiger that is becoming extinct, it is about every living thing in existence. Why do we Humans always have to put ourselves at the topmost at all times, have we stopped feeling anything emotional unless that relates to our immediate family. Many a time I have always felt that we are in no way different from the cannibals of the past. The manner in which we treat these animals for our livelihood/pleasure/monetary gain is simply atrocious and inhumane. There have been innumerable instances where these animals are alive and kicking and their skin peeled off. In spite of the animal welfare organizations’ untiring efforts, we have evolved ourselves from a humanistic approach towards a cannibalistic approach. Looking at the statistics of endangered and extinct species, we need not be told that how centered our life has become, it is always about ME and I. I certainly would relate this to the changing facets of human society; it is no wonder that terrorism has become a common word for us and has become part of our daily activities. When human life doesn’t mean anything to us, what would an animal (who we don’t see) mean to us? We, humans, with all our power and reach, are just another species in this universe. We are in fact not sealing up the fate of a seal, but sealing up HUMANISM.

I do not like to preach or appeal to do something towards being more humane in our approach. All I would say is if we feel about anything deeply, that resolves the whole problem, and our outlook towards that thing changes, making us to value LIFE AS IS.
