Who is not Racist?

Who is not Racist?

I haven’t seen the show – “Big Brother”. All I hear in the media is that Shilpa Shetty was called a “f#*king Paki” and a “Dog”! by few of her big brother housemates! One commented about her touching the food with her hands, one commented on her “skin color” and one said she is too fake! Well, yes Shilpa is being victimized.

But why is Indian Government asking the British Government to look into this matter?

May be Indian Government should look in its own quarters! Here are some small things that happen everywhere in India:

Someone asks if you are “letting” your home. One of the first few questions would be
“what is your caste?”

There are colonies, in Telangana region of Andhra Pradesh, which are named after such races. The foundation stone for such colonies are laid by none other than legislature members or Parliamentarians. We all know about those “associations” and private meetings. Don’t We?

In fact I know of an NRI lady, who dumped her boyfriend, just because she later realized that there was a ‘Race’ mismatch! I see loads of marriage ads on some websites, where  people with PhDs, MBAs and MSs in their hands are looking for partners with “Specific” Caste in mind.

And the biggest example: Our own Constitution supports reservations! Aren’t reservations done on the basis of which “race” a citizen’s father/mother belongs to?

I think, the Indian Government is involved in this matter only because most of its NRI ‘investors’ have suddenly realized that Indians are abused behind their backs! Indian Government has no other option but to show support to them.

But whatever Indian Government is trying to do looks like a half hearted attempt of support. After all, it is the same Indian Government that has prompted the new Reservation systems!

Lets accept it racism happens everywhere, even in India!

I know some of the MNC’s which recruit on the basis of CAST.

Can’t we keep simple things simple ?

  2. Wow, thats something different ! The very moment one joins the school, we start asking the cast, race and still we will protest against racism. Its really a double standard, man !

  3. All of us are discussing and made an issue out of a non issue. And the winner is Ms. Shetty who got 3 crore and loads of publicity and sympathy. She went there knowing what it would be like. She was paid for it and if she thinks she is an ambassador of her country she should behave much more responsibly rather than crying foul. All of us should realise that eventually it is a game where everyone is paid to be a part of it and no one is into it forcefully.

  4. Dear Author,

Are you sure that “Reservations in India” are based on Race and not CASTE ?

    from your quote..
“Our own Constitution supports reservations! Aren’t reservations done on the basis of which “race” a citizen’s father/mother belongs to?”

I am bit confused with these 2 terms.. If you can elaborate that will be Great.

  5. Dear Sidd,
I’m not sure of the different meanings of CASTE and RACE. There are quite a few people fighting to find the correct meaning of race!
So here in this case I have used (and hence confused) both the words as same!!!

When I find the correct meanings (and hence the difference) I will definitely keep you informed.

Please Note: The bloggerr is very particular about usage of words!!!
